Why Barley?

This coming week is our wedding! It is hard to believe it is already here! We want to let you know we will be doing communion together during the ceremony and you are welcome to join us, so have some kind of communion elements ready if you’d like. On our end here, Reba has been busy experimenting with barley crackers. Why barley?
As we understand it, the Passover was a representation and looking forward to the cross that brought our redemption and restoration through True Jesus. At Passover, the grain that had just been harvested would have been barley, the firstfruits of the grain harvests. The wheat harvest would coincide with Pentecost or Shavuot as it is called in Hebrew. The Passover represented the spotless Lamb of God where they were to use unleavened barley bread. During Shavout, there was no instructions to avoid leaven and so it to us represents the mixture of the church going forward even in the midst of an earnest or portion of the Holy Spirit being released. We await the full measure to come!
To us, the barley represents the firstfruits of those who have trusted fully in Jesus’ death and not trusted in their own righteousness and whom we understand who will be called to rule and reign with Him in the millennial kingdom.
We’ve chosen barley to symbolize our desire to walk in Jesus’ righteousness alone and to shine forth His glory through our lives personally, as a couple and in our community as a firstfruits to the Lord. You are welcome to use any form for communion but we wanted to share our hearts with you and why we are using barley.
We hope you will join us on Zoom (or in person if you are local) on October 4th. Please RSVP if you wish to join us. If you missed the wedding invitation, here it is: https://youtube.com/shorts/OzPWRDWwr7Q
