The Role of Our Human Spirit

For most in the church, there’s not a lot of teaching on our human spirit and its function with our soul and body.  If there is anything, it is usually how our spirit should “beat” our soul and body into submission.  That is not how God works!

For most in the church, there’s not a lot of teaching on our human spirit and its function with our soul and body.  If there is anything, it is usually how our spirit should “beat” our soul and body into submission.  That is not how God works!

Our spirit is often portrayed as perfect once we’ve been “saved” and now should “rule over” the rest of us to get us to do things right.  To start with, a number of Scriptures talk about a broken spirit, a crushed spirit and a defiled spirit and more.  While we are a new creation when we discover the good news of who we are in True Jesus, we are also a work in progress.  This paradox doesn’t need to be contradictory.  Outside of time and space where True FAMILY are, our spirit is perfect and whole.  In this realm, we are still on a journey and it is beautiful.  I am loving hearing in our community the beautiful breakthroughs as people are engaging more with their spirits and walking out life in a fresh ways!

The other conundrum is what is the role of our spirit?  I believe the Trinity is a good model.  All three are essential and unique in their function, while at the same time, having similarities.  We wouldn’t say True Jesus is more important than Father or Holy Spirit, even though Father says all authority is given to Him and His name is above every other name.  We don’t see Jesus bullying Father or Holy Spirit or telling them what to do.  They all work together in harmony in Their unique roles.

Think about our body.  Our heart, brain and lungs are all essential to life.  We don’t consider one more important than the other.  Our brain does send signals to and help regulate our heart and lungs, but not in an overbearing way (or at least it is not meant to!).

I believe that our spirit can see into the heavenly realm (seated with Christ in heavenly places) and this realm, while our soul and body usually operate in this realm.  This means our spirit has a viewpoint that is needed for life.  I also wonder if our spirit contains a larger understanding of our destiny scroll.  This doesn’t make our spirit “better than” but simply skilled in helping our soul and body in a unique way to walk in the fullness of life True FAMILY have for us.

So let’s cooperate with our human spirit in partnership with True FAMILY in this transformation journey!  In next week’s blog, we will explore more!
