How Do We Discern?

There have been some recent stirrings of controversies regarding some healing ministries. It really is nothing new. But how do we deal with these things when it seems to come down to what one person says or another?
It is especially challenging within the SRA realm because many survivors are programmed to bring false allegations against ministries and leaders. Their presenter may not even realize that that is the agenda or what they are really doing. In those cases, we want to move with great compassion for the survivor who may not consciously be aware of the truth. I have to be aware that every person who comes to Transformations might be an infiltrator with a cult agenda, but also realizing I was used in that way and I could have back parts who are trying to sabotage my own ministry or others. If an issue or accusation comes up, I want to be open and honest and seek God and others about it, willing to recognize if I have any part in it. I want to be accountable as we all have blind spots.
We don’t want to participate in accusations as that is from the enemy. At the same time, we don’t want to be gullible and believe everything that surfaces. I believe there is safety in discernment and counsel with others as well as seeking the Lord in humility, knowing that any of us can get it wrong at times.
In my own wrestling with these things, I might have parts tell me things about another ministry or leader and I might even feel I have confirmation from God, I still want to tread lightly and continue to look for confirmation. When there is sufficient confirmation from various sources, what is my responsibility? Do I broadcast it publicly? Do I share privately? Do I go directly to the person?
I don’t think there is a formula for this. Each situation is unique. Some general principles are to stay relational if possible and to honor the other person, even if they are accusing you and/or you disagree. Treat the other person how we would want to be treated, with dignity as another child of God. Honorably disagree without accusation. Sharing our opinion as such and allow others to process with God and come to their own conclusions.
What do we do when it feels like they are dangerous to us or others? This is much harder. What is our conviction from God? Is it coming from fear or love? Can we share in a respectful way that is honoring to God and leaves room for restoration?
These are things I’m pondering about this. How about you? Comment below if you have suggestions or ideas.

I’ve yet to meet anyone that has it all right or even that everything they do feels safe to my system. Still, I have learned from all of them. I feel like there is a big agenda right now to keep everyone distracted by keeping us focused on how things should be fixed or addressed in other ministries that we don’t know enough about instead of actually healing. Don’t let the enemy waste your time and energy on things that don’t bring healing. I can pray for other ministries but I don’t need to be hyper focused on ministers that I choose not to work with. Maybe we all only have part of the puzzle because He wants the body of Christ to learn how to work together as the body. Reminds me of the verse that warns us to remove the plank from our own eye first.
Really good insight, Georgia! I agree to not be hyper focused on what others are doing and that that can be part of the strategy of the enemy to keep us distracted. At the same time, some people need a safe place to process. There's a balance and I'm glad we can all find it as we are led by God, without losing sight of our own healing and/or plank in our own eye! 😀
